Me llamo Frito on the Radio and on Monday I met Menudo in OKC at Celebration Station (I-40 and Meridian)!
Carlos, Chris, Jose, Monti, and Emmanuel stopped by, fresh off their show "Making of Menudo" as seen on MTV and MTV: Tres.
They met several of their biggest fans and hung out with me, Frito. While there, I decided to try my very first bowl of steaming hot menudo. If you don't know what Menudo is, it's a soup made from red chili's, (usually) hominy, and...the most important ingredient...TRIPE!!
Yeah.
Tripe.
You know what tripe is?? Here, let dictionary.com help you:

the first and second divisions of the stomach of a ruminant, esp. oxen, sheep, or goats, used as food.
Yeah. Cow Stomach.
Okay, so seriously, it wasn't all that bad. The restaurant who made it, El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant at S.W. 29th and the I-35 Service Road, did an amazing job. From a completely unbiased "was this food made well" standpoint, they did great. It's just that the flavor was so...different. It tasted a little like beef and a little like something that I can't quite describe. The good news was that the red chili soup certainly off-set the flavor, and according to Carlos, who grew up eating menudo, it was very, very well done.
And hey, menudo is also supposed to be a great hangover cure, so I guess it's got that going for it.
